Erin O’Boyle (she/her)
Erin O’Boyle (she/her) is a queer visual artist based in Glasgow.
Writing: The basis of my art practice comes from a place of reflection, attempting to navigate the world around me, and documenting these observations through intuitive writing. It’s an endeavour to make sense of the commonplace space and objects through a neurodivergent lens. I am very interested in the sentimentality human’s attach to objects and things which comes from a personal dependence on familiarity, comfort and memories.
Making: The physicality of my work often decides itself through the acquisition of found objects. I am drawn to working with things that have had a purpose and life prior to being part of my artwork, both conceptually and in terms of sustainability. The collecting of objects decides the direction of my work, typically employing installation, assemblage, photography and writing to demonstrate my concept.
Placing: My work relies on an intuitive installation process. Existing as an inquiry in contextually displacing familiar spaces and objects in order for the viewer to see past its objective presence, or to feel immersed within the fictional space I’ve created. I want to give the viewer space to take what they need from my work by situating comforting depictions of loss, sentimentality, love, anxiety and a reliance on familiarity.
