THE CLAY BANK EXCHANGE
Situated on the bank of the Forth and Clyde Canal opposite the Claypits Nature Reserve is this Urban Food Exchange. The Clay-Bank Exchange aims to change how fresh produce is delivered to and consumed by the end user. Produce is grown throughout the city and transported to the Exchange through the extensive Glasgow canal network. This produce is then carted from the boat into the production space (located directly next to the canal for ease). After the produce has been treated within this production space, it is transferred directly into the main Exchange space, a 200m2 double-height space with views of the canal, the new ramp development (connecting the canal and city) and further views onto the city itself. Alongside the exchange space, a series of learning spaces have been designed. These spaces consist of a learning kitchen, located directly below the Exchange, open to the vertical courtyard, and a classroom, located below the kitchen, with a visual connection to the vertical courtyard. Furthermore, a residential zone has also been designed for long-term visitors using the learning facilities. This residential zone has a private courtyard so that visitors can use a private outdoor space.
