Sarah Wilmott (She / Her)
This foundation collection, entitled Metric, explores the tactility of objects and draws attention to materials often undervalued or overlooked. The work seeks to elevate materials and processes commonly associated with industrial applications and practices through a contemporary reinterpretation.
Each piece is unique and utilises a neutral colour palette to amplify the surface details. This minimalist approach showcases the sculptural forms that are instrumental in the centre of each piece. The domed surfaces bounce and scatter light penetrating through the mesh, creating a spectrum of shadows that shift as they come into contact with the body.
This ongoing collection of works utilises traditional techniques and industrial materials to create modern, thoughtful pieces for people who cherish meaningful objects. My contemporary designs all begin and end with the same thing: curiosity and meticulous attention to detail.
South Square Trust
Silversmithing Scholarships
‘The South Square Trust offers support for students in their final year at selected UK universities. Each year we award four awards to final year undergraduate students specialising in silver. The Trustees ask the course leaders at universities offering silversmithing courses to send in nominations for the Award for review; only one from each collage is selected. The awards started in September 2018.’
I am immensely grateful to the Trust for their support this year. The financial assistance and recognition of my potential as a silversmith have made a massive difference to the work I have produced in my final year of study. My foundation collection is richer as a direct result.
